It was later released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) on May 27, 2021. It is a spin-off of the Bomberman series.

Like its main series counterpart Super Bomberman R, the game contains various characters from Konami's famous franchises.

Gameplay[]

Battle 64[]

Battle 64 delivers what it's called by name. You battle with 63 other players from around the world. Just like the Grand Prix mode, the characters have different stats. Instead of having players in a big arena, the players are separated in sixteen areas with six rounds. The first five rounds last a minute, while the final round last 3 minutes, and gives you 15 seconds to move to the next area if the one you're in is going to close.

Standard[]

Just like in past Bomberman games, it includes the classic battle mode, now playable up to 16 players. You go go through a 2D grid based platform and place bombs to defeat your opponents. The last bomber standing is the winner of the match. The Standard mode is currently playable in private matches.

Grand Prix[]

Returning from Super Bomberman R, the Grand Prix mode returns, 6 players will split up to 2 teams, and go through a rule(depending on which rule you choose), and try to win the most points. When players get blown off, they respawn in 5 seconds. At a mid-time blocks will begin falling down during the match. The Grand Prix mode is currently playable in private matches. There are two rule sets available:

  • Crystal: Get points by collecting the crystals in the stage. Knocked out players will respawn but will leave behind half their collected crystals. The team with the most points win.
  • Basic Bomber: Compete for points by defeating the opponent team. Players have a set number of lives and will be unable to respawn if they run out.

Unlike Super Bomberman R, the Bomberman Bros. can't equip any special abilities.

Crowd Play[]

Players would immediately join the streamer's private room. The Crowd Play feature was only available on Stadia.

Unlike Super Bomberman R and R 2, there is no CPU Battle mode for any of the game modes in Super Bomberman R Online for players to practice. Those will be made available with the release of Super Bomberman R 2.

Characters[]

The 8 Bomberman Bros. returned as playable characters, with their personalities intact. There were 18 characters from Konami's other franchises available via a Premium Pass.

Similar to the 2.1 Patch for Super Bomberman R, characters were classified by types: Bomber, Attack, Speed, and Unique. The Assist types were moved to Unique.
