Pakupa (パクパ, Pakupa) is a recurring enemy in the Bomberman series.

Description[]

Pakupa is a blue monster with one eye whose main ability is to eat bombs planted on the map. Because of their ability to devour bombs, Pakupas can be destroyed if Bomberman places more bombs that can detonate as the Pakupas finish their meal.

Super Bomberman[]

In Super Bomberman, Pakupa is found in Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 6. It moves at a speed of 2, only changing direction when colliding with blocks or other enemies. It may choose to reverse directions even if it is not at a dead end. If a bomb is within 8 spaces of Pakupa, and there are no blocks between them, Pakupa will pursue and devour it. It harms the player on collision. It takes 3 hits to defeat and yields a score of 400 points.

Super Bomberman 5[]

In Super Bomberman 5, Pakupa appears in Zone 1. It pursues the players' bombs regardless of how many spaces away they are. It takes 1 hit to defeat and yields a score of 200 points.

Bomberman (DS)[]

It reappears in Bomberman (DS), found in Area 6. It still keeps the ability to eat bombs. It takes 1 hit to defeat and yields a score of 1000 points.

Super Bomberman R[]

They also appear as uncommon enemies in Super Bomberman R, redesigned with two eyes and teeth and featuring a less predictable pattern.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Pakupa" is based on the Japanese word "Pakupaku" which is an onomatopoeia for eating and is also interestingly the name of another enemy: Pakupaku.
  • In Super Bomberman 5, if two bombs are placed on opposite sides of Pakupa, the AI will become confused and will constantly change directions to face both bombs, though this is never documented.
  • Pakupa shares a very close appearance with Munchie Jump from Super Bomberman 2, both also possess the ability to eat bombs.
