Grampa Bomber (Bonjii in Japanese) is a member of the Bomber Family and is a playable character in Bomberman '94.
Description[]
He is an elderly, bearded Bomberman who walks with a cane. When controlled by the computer, Grampa Bomber has a very weak offense and prefers to focus on his defensive tactics.
Trivia[]
- His Japanese name, Bonjii, is a portmanteau of Bomb and Ojii-san, meaning Grandfather.
- The name "Bonjii" was submitted by Keiichi Takahashi from Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.
- A later character, Bomber Chun, bears a striking resemblance to Grampa Bomber.
- During development, Grampa Bomber was originally going to use his cane to jump onto a Louie. Also, he was originally going to drink tea as his idle animation if the player is not controlling him. However, later in the game's development, these animations were scrapped and became unused, but their sprites were still found in the game's code. This trait was later used by Bomber Chun in the guidebook used for Super Bomberman 3, as well as Black Bomberman in one of the artworks in Bomberman Land 2. He is also one of two characters in Mega Bomberman that use their props to jump onto a Louie, the other is Bonsaver.
