Bomberman: Yuuki o Arigatou Watashi ga Mimi ni Naru (jap. ボンバーマン 勇気をありがとう私が耳になる) ("Thanks for the Courage, Bomberman") is an Original Video Animation film released on VHS on April 21, 1997 that was produced by Sankyo Educational Film Company and distributed by Shochiku. It is a serious-minded educational video with the primary purpose of teaching Japanese children basic survival strategies to be used during an earthquake disaster scenario.
Sypnosis[]
The film revolves around a young girl who lives with her younger sister and hearing-impaired parents. After an earthquake hits their hometown Kobe, they escape to an evacuation center and the girl starts drawing manga of Bomberman characters to cheer up other children in the facility. In the end, Togetoge and Chikuchiku wanted to help after their embarrassment with The 5 Dastardly Bombers and Buggler, so they helped their friends.
The setting of Kobe may have been chosen due to the real-life Great Hanshin earthquake that occurred there two years prior in 1995. This event may also have inspired the entire creation of the film, as the quake led to a massive renewed push for disaster preparedness in Japan, and many similar campaigns promoting it.
Most of the video revolves around educational scenes set in the real world, with only a few scenes depicting action resembling that of the Bomberman games.
Trivia[]
- The famous Bomberman's Theme, "BGM1', appears during the ending sequence.
